2002 J Lohr Carol's Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet

Back in 2006 Paul and I spent 10 days in Central CA. It was wonderful!  One of our stops was at J Lohr in Paso Robles and this 2002 Carol's Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was one of our purchases.  As you can see, we stuck it in the wine cellar and forgot about it, until recently.  (That was a good thing)

J. Lohr's Carol's Vineyard is located in St. Helena. It is home to 16.4 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 10.9 acres of Sauvignon Blanc and 4.4 acres of Petit Verdot. This vineyard is named after his wife who has since passed away from a battle of breast cancer in 2008.  Beginning in 2009 the Lohr family has been working to curtail the impact of breast cancer in the lives of other families. They set out to donate 500 mammograms to women in need by donating $2 from every bottle sold of their Carol's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. To date 2500 mammograms have been funded. Kudos to the Lohr Family!

Now to the wine...The color on the wine was amazing.  Deep ruby red with aromas of blackberry, black currents and hints of oak and vanilla.

Serious dark fruit filled my palate! Very complex even at 10 years old with strong notes of cassis. I savored every sip of this wine. I wish we had another bottle or two!
