Vinum Cafe at Brotherhood Winery

Twice I have had the opportunity to eat at Vinum Cafe located at Brotherhood Winery.  I just haven't had the time to write about it, so I apologize for putting it off.

I usually tell people when they go out wine tasting to pack a picnic lunch.  Many of the wineries don't have food. Many people don't pack a lunch and wonder where they will be able to catch a bite to eat.  Look no further...Vinum Cafe has opened at Brotherhood Winery.

What is exceptionally nice is everything on the menu is under $12.95.  I've enjoyed a cheese burger and crab cakes at the Cafe.  My dining partner Colleen who happen to be with me both times enjoyed the chicken and mushrooms in a puff pastry and the salmon.  I seem to never have room for dessert and do want to try the Creme Brulee, as I heard it was very good.

There is a nice variety on the menu and the service is good.  The restaurant does have space for groups as well as a patio for outdoor dinning.

At the present time the restaurant only accepts cash, so make sure you bring enough as there is no ATM on site.

I ate at Vinum for the first time last night and loved it. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere... lovely. I definitely recommend to anyone who is on the fence about going, you will be pleased. I will definitely be back to Vinum Cafe in the near future!

After reading the review of this resaturant in the Record last week
we expected a decent meal at the very least.

Here's what we experienced:

Watered down potato-leek soup....ghastly

Salad was good. (Turned out to be the only good food we ate.)

1-1/2 hrs. after arriving we were finally served our meal:

vegetables .... cold
potatoes .......cold
meat ........... cold
PLATES even .......cold..... HELLO?

and the veal chop was so grossly huge it would have suited
an elephant. Just looking at the cold thing was revolting.

All of the above drenched in butter and oil which of course
being COLD was not appetizing.

And let me not forget the coffee......hot but sooooo weak.

We ordered dessert but it never arrived!!!!

You know in over 50yrs. I have never had such a bad experience.

Doesn't even rate one star. On Saturday, June 18, as my date and I walked in I asked where their restroom was, for my date, as we had stayed on the grounds after the winery tour and the public restrooms outside had already closed. I had not had the opportunity to yet indicate that we had intended to eat at that location before an elderly gentleman with balding white hair feigned being unable to hear me so he could come from behind the bar indicated the restaurant HAD NO RESTROOM. I couldn't believe what I just heard so I asked him to verify, in that restaurant there was NO BATHROOM?!? He repeated himself saying there was none.
We went outside and was able to find one of the young Brotherhood winery employees, a kind, and CONSIDERATE gentleman, to bring us to the employee restroom located in the administration building. After that we decided not to stay and actually came back to New York City, where we are from, to eat in Manhattan.
But wait, there is more. On Monday, I called the restaurant to verify if I had misheard. I explained what had happened to a gentleman who answered the phone and he explained I was given incorrect information. He explained that at 6:30 PM, on a Saturday, in the middle of nowhere, where the restaurant is located, I should have actually been told that the restaurant has a restroom for CUSTOMERS ONLY. Of course throughout this entire conversation, the individual on the other end of the phone never once offered an apology for any inconvenience I experienced on Saturday, for being lied to, and for displaying gross lack of business, professional, and common human courtesy. From other reviews I am reading it seems this is not uncommon attitude and conduct from this restaurant. I'm glad I didn't subject myself to doing business with them and staying for the food.

What a great find!! In the land of endless farms and beautiful green fields this place was a great end of our one-day upstate lake trip. Vinum Cafe had a great selection of wines and we actually tried six different ones together with a delightful meat platter and scallops. Meat platter had...and I MEAN IT...one of the best prosciutto I've ever tried..melting..going really well with a glass of Pinot Noir. Scallops came with lemon basmati rice (extremely flavorful) and fresh fresh snow peas. I would never think all those 3 ingredients would go well together. But all of the flavors worked magic. Yum yum yum!
The place had a great cocktail list and much more dishes to try. Can not wait to go back there!!mmm...

I went to this place with my boyfriend the Saturday before Valentine's Day and everything was perfect. The food is simple yet decadent and every bite from the soup to the dessert was thoroughly enjoyed. Each course was artistically plated and perfectly portioned- It must takes a lot of work to produce such food and the Chef was nice enough to come out of the Kitchen to make sure everyone was happy. The evening was spectacular.

I learned from the Chef that the restaurant is still getting started as the place just opened last spring and they just acquired their liquor license in December. I'm excited to see what Vinum Cafe has to offer as the restaurant matures.

Overall, this place is really special! If you're in the mood to have a luxurious evening then I strongly recommend Vinum Cafe

One of my favorites. I have had the pleasure of knowing the owner and head chef, Christian Pierrel, of this restaurant for several years now and have been to his past restaurants, especially Ile de France in Goshen, NY, which was rated very highly by Zagat. Again he lives up to his high set French standards by dishing out what is undoubtedly some of the best food in Orange County. This is one restaurant where I actually consider the food to be Haute Cuisine. The atmosphere is incredible. You are sitting in a building located at the oldest winery in the counrty and you can tell exactly that as soon as you walk in the door. The service is prompt and friendly and I have never had a problem. It is also a great venue for large groups due to the large patio and large "backroom". This is the perfect place for me and I strongly recommend it to anyone who likes good food, good wine, and an overall great dining experience

Just went to Vinum with my parents and it was amazing! They just received their liquor license (for all of those poor reviews because of it). We were offered a tasting of a delicious potato and lobster salad on the house, the potatoes were cooked to perfection and the lobster was sweet. I had the petite salad with the raspberry vinaigrette to start, the dressing was so delicious and the only thing better on the plate was the beautiful plating. My parents split the mussels appetizer, there was nothing left for me by time I finished my salad, they even dipped the fresh made bread into the sauce. For our entrees we all had a lovely glass of Merlot and my mother and I had the chicken in puff pastry while my dad had the crab cake. The puff pastry was golden, light and crisp, the chicken and mushrooms were seasoned and cooked to perfection while the snow peas and tomatoes were beautifully done, still sweet with a nice crunch. Meanwhile my dad had devoured his crab cake without a word (unheard of in my family). Dessert all three of us had the homemade apple tart. It was the perfect end to the perfect meal. The prices were extremely reasonable, the decor was beautiful, the service was intimate, there was nothing to dislike.
